| dotdotdotdotdot.mov [1.7Mb] | Intro video for the snailsnail hub relaunch. | 20.04.2006 | ||||||||
| gods-children.mov [5.3Mb] | This is just a little proj. i've been working on for a couple of days, it turned out a lot more time consuming than it was supposed to, still i think it's a little pretty. no special tricks or techniques though. it's a little large i'm afraid, for what it is. with audio. | 24.01.2006 | ||||||||
| inside-my-heart.mov [1.3Mb] | as are most of my little vids, this is a test of techniques and processes i've not tried before. Here i'm using the Mental Ray renderer for the first time in order to do some caustic lighting. This is also the first example of a model I've made with patches - which are used to model organic shapes. Although conceptually this is the inside of a heart, it's obviously not really anything like one, i'm not going for anatomy awards here, there aren't any glowing lights or giant reflective spheres in my heart.. | 18.01.2006 | ||||||||
| some-positions01.mov [1.86Mb] | i was just fiddling about with some images that i'm creating for a future gallery of images - working title: '16 positions' - which seems a long way off completion, so i plugged them into a little movie and made this. | 06.01.2006 | ||||||||
| >> a real actual finished project << | ||||||||||
| greatslate.mov [17.6Mb] | "grate's late" :: the project
formerly know as "lil' romeo" is finished, not entirely perfect,
but finished. This is essentially a music video of the simplest sort
(barring just sticking a load of lip-syncing buffoons in front of a camera)
in that the lyrics of the song are directly and literally interpreted
into visuals without any particular cleverness, tangentialness, or effort
at interpretation. while this is not my favourite way of working, it
is sometimes liberating both to try something different and to free oneself
of the constraints of over-intellectualisation. the song is "Late Greats" by Wilco from the album "A Ghost is Born", not an album, band or song that i particularly like, but sometimes you hear something, and for whatever reason a visual in your head goes with it and you get inspired. the starting point for this was the very simple image of the circles expanding and contracting, goodness knows why but it seemed like a great idea at the time. most of the photos and videos used in the piece were taken by people i was at uni with in my final year, hence 'bangor posse', and are used entirely without their permission, special mention should go to Fran and Rubén without whose effort i wouldn't have had the images to appropriate. the images were edited by me in Photoshop and Premiere. other images were drawn by my good self. the lungs are from Gray's Anatomy. the vocal chords from some random medical internet site. the sheet music is my mothers. all the 3D models were created by me in 3dsmax and the whole thing was assembled there and edited back in Premiere.

| drum-test.mov [1.4 Mb] | another test from "lil' romeo". one of several models made today - this shows a little drum kit. | 03.01.2006 | ||||||||
| ball_t04.mov [0.4 Mb] | another short piece of "the rolling of the spheres" - this demonstrates nicely the visual style to be used, dramatic shifts in speed, circular motion, and shifts of lighting. the piece was going to be in two contrasting halves, dark and light, this one from the dark half. | 01.01.2006 | ||||||||
| balls02.mov [1.4Mb] | this is part of another possibly abandoned project - this one floundered on very long render times resulting from excessive raytracing of shadows and reflections - the project was going to be called "the rolling of the spheres" . | 01.01.2006 | ||||||||
| flaxen01.mov [1.0Mb] | this is one of only two final renders produced for an abandoned project - working title: "flaxen" - that got bogged down in tricky simulations. if i were going to start again, and i might, i'd give up on dynamic simulation and keyframe the whole thing. this doesn't demonstrate any simulation. | 01.01.2006 | ||||||||
| deck-test1.mov [2.4 Mb] | this is the first rendered test for a project currently in production - working title: "lil' romeo". | 31.12.2005 | ||||||||
